Young Climate Ambassadors in Cameroon
Earth Rising is proud to have been one of the organizations supporting Meg Wah’s youth education initiative in Cameroon, which helped raise awareness of issues related to the climate crisis, with a particular focus on teaching Indigenous stewardship practices to fight local deforestation.
Sixty youths (7-15 years old) were selected from Buea and Limbe to participate in this 2-month experiential learning program. The participants visited botanical gardens as well as areas affected by the climate crisis and deforestation. They learned about biodiversity and climate change mitigation through traditional storytelling practices, dancing, debate, poetry, drawing, and singing.
These young participants exited the program better equipped to act as climate ambassadors in their communities, eager to share what they’ve learned and to inspire others to participate in efforts to protect carbon sinks and biodiversity.
