PROGRAMS - sustainable visions
Envisioning a just and sustainable future
Climate activist and author Naomi Klein has argued that “no is not enough”; we need an affirmative vision of how political and economic life can work for everyone, including non-humans and future generations.
We offer support for projects that help us envision a path to a better future. These may include works of literature, visual and performance art, design (broadly-construed), and more.
Artists and creative thinkers of all stripes can request resources for their projects below:
Sustainable Visions projects
This past year The Block Museum of Art’s Block Cinema program at Northwestern University, brought together artists, students, and community members for a series of hands-on workshops to demonstrate alternative methods for creating films and still photographs that bypass the harmful chemicals typically used in developing 16mm and 35mm film.
For a decade this year, DearTomorrow has been inspiring people to engage in the climate struggle through sharing their own stories and promises to the next generation. DearTomorrow asks participants to write a letter to someone they love living in 2050 about their vision for the future and the work they are doing today to make that vision a reality.
Since 2015 Climate Change Theatre Action (CCTA) has used theatre to inspire artists and audiences to take action on the climate crisis and then together to imagine and create the world they want to live in.
Carefully balancing hope and urgency, DearTomorrow has shown to be effective in getting people to engage in the climate struggle, and it is a privilege to be able to support their work and growth.
We were so excited to work with Our Climate Voices (OCV) — a creative collective of young women, queer folks, BIPOC, and disabled people working to humanize the climate crisis with ethical storytelling for radical change — to support their Eco Anxiety and Climate Grief Artist Residency program.
